The Opportunity Scholarship program was created by the North Carolina General Assembly in 2013. Scholarships are awarded based on a family’s household income and can be used to pay the required tuition and fees to attend an eligible private school.
Qualifying families can be awarded up to $7,000 per student for the 2024-2025 school year.
Your child does not need to be enrolled at ELS to apply for this scholarship.
North Carolina’s Education Student Accounts (ESA+) program is available to meet the needs of students with disabilities. Funds may be used to pay tuition and fees for eligible private schools, and for expenses such as speech therapy, tutoring services, and educational technology.
We offer financial aidthrough ELS in addition to what you may receive from NC Opportunity Scholarship and also for those families who do not qualify for the NC Opportunity Scholarship. You will need to create an account to apply for financial aid as this is different from your family portal account. You must be enrolled at ELS to apply for this aid.
When determining your household income, please remember the following: if two parents live together in the home, even if one parent is a step-parent, the combined income must be submitted. If biological parents are not in the same household (but they share care of the child) both incomes must be reported. If parents are divorced, any child support or alimony must be reported and if a parent does not file, an IRS Verification of Non-filing Letter (4506-T) will be required during enrollment.
