Welcome to Summer Rocks at Emmanuel Lutheran School! This year we will be offering camps for students in Preschool through rising 6th grade. In our program your child can explore a wide variety of areas. Please read the program listings carefully to find out more about each camp. 

All programs are held Monday through Friday.  A snack is served each day, anda hot lunch is offered for children attending after 12:00 for $2.00 per child per day. Please note that there is no camp on Monday July 4th in observance of Independence Day. 

The Little Tikes program is for Infant thru rising Kindergartners. Our infant and toddler program is a predominantly full day program. For our two-year-olds through rising kindergartners we offer a choice of half or full day options. Please speak with the Director regarding these and other options.

Our Explorers Program, for rising Kindergarten thru rising 6th grade students, offers a choice of half day or full day, with lots of flexible options.  Arts and crafts, swimming, and other fun activities round out the afternoon for our full-day campers.

Emmanuel Under the Lights, for rising 6th thru 12th grade, is a partial-day camp.  Please read carefully to determine camp hours.  It all culminates with two fantastic drama camp performances.

Space is limited, so don’t delay!  Please note that a non-refundable $50.00 registration fee and four signatures are required for the application to be complete and to reserve your child’s spot. This fee is applied to the cost of the camps.  Also, please feel free to call us at 281-8182 with any questions you may have about any of our programs.

A copy of the applicant’s most recent immunization records must accompany applications for new students. Additional paperwork is required for our Little Tikes program, please see camp director.
  • Please read all registration information carefully before completing the Summer Programs Application.
  • One application must be completed for each participant.

Financial Obligations:

  • A non-refundable $50.00 registration fee and four signatures are required for the application to be complete. This fee is subsequently applied to the cost of the camps. The balance of the Camp Fee is due one week prior to the beginning of the camp session. 
  • Payment must be made in the form of cash or check.
  • Current Tuition Express (TE) families need to contact the main office (281-8182) if you want to continue with TE for the summer.
  • A 10% discount is extended to the camp fees of siblings.  Inquire about details and limitations.
  • No sibling discount on camps noted in brochure due to contractors’ restrictions.
  • No tuition-free days are allowed (i.e. sick days, vacation days, etc.). 
  • If a camp is cancelled due to low interest, a refund will be issued.
  • Once you sign up for a camp and you want to drop or switch to another camp, you must present a written request (SEE FORM BELOW) to the camp director or front desk two weeks in advance. Failure to provide written request at least two weeks in advance will result in required payment due for the full amount.
  •  Field Trips subject to change based on availability.
  • For all field trip camps it is required that each child bring a snack, lunch, and drink since the schedules will vary.
  • Please check with the camp counselors the morning of each field trip for an estimated time of arrival back at ELS.

For Infants to rising Kindergarten

Nine 1-week sessions • June 12th - August 11th

Note: Due to the July 4th holiday, Session 4 will be prorated (80%) to offset the shorter week. A snack and hot lunch are included.

Little Tikes are placed in classes that are age-appropriate and fun, but most importantly, comfortable for the young child.  Our experienced, Early Childhood educators really love children. Each day offers arts, crafts, songs and movement, story time, and loads of fun.  Special instructors will bring even more excitement and learning to a terrific summer.  As this program is nearly always at capacity, be sure to check for availability as early as possible.

Arts and crafts, singing, dancing, drama, and special dress-up days are just a few of the fun activities we have planned for your preschooler this summer! Below are the themes we have planned for loads of summer fun! Every other Friday is water day, so don’t forget to pack a swimsuit and towel starting the week of June 19th!

Imagine a world where curious kids become hands-on inventors who discover they’re lovingly crafted by God. Each day at Maker Fun Factory VBS, kids travel through field-tested rotations that reinforce relevant Bible Points and immerse kids in new adventures.

June 19th -23th   A Camping We Will Go!

Get ready to pitch a tent and make s’mores! We will explore and learn about nature and all the wonderful gifts God has given us! Friday water day!! 

June 26th –June 30th   Under the Sea 

Let’s take a trip to the beach and dive into the ocean! We’ll explore who lives under the sea and have a fun beach luau!     

July 3rd – July 7th    Stars and Stripes

Oh say can you see…. All the fun this week will bring us as we celebrate the great red, white, and blue!  Friday water day!! 

July 10th – July 14th   Safari

We’re on the lookout for the furry, the feathered, and the fantastic this week as we explore the world in search of animals of all kinds. 

July 17th –July 21st     Dinosaurs!

We will be exploring the dinosaur kingdom and learn how Herbivores ate plants, Carnivores ate meat, and how some were small and some were big.  Friday water day!! 

July 24th- July 28th   Explore Nature

Get ready for adventures out in nature. We’re going to explore the great outdoors with funtastic activities! 

July 31st – August 4th   Community Helpers

This week we will learn about all about police officers, firefighters, doctors, nurses and postal workers. All the people that help keep us safe, healthy, and help our community run smoothly! Friday water day!! 

Aug. 7th – Aug. 11th   Just Imagine

This week we will learn about fairy tales that include Princesses, Kings, Queens, and giants. Always a preschool favorite! 

*Two through five-year-olds will have a music
and drama class every week.

The Explorers
For rising 1st Graders to 6th Graders

Nine 1-week sessions June 12th - August 11th

We offer two camp choices each week.  You can also choose to attend for half day only, or stay all day.  Because you only pay for the weeks you attend, this setup is very parent-friendly.  

If you choose to attend Camp only, the hours are 9:00-noon unless otherwise stated. For those needing to drop off their children earlier, we offer care from 7:30-5:30; snacks are included. In the afternoons, the children will have fun with arts, crafts, games, and extended learning activities. On Fridays the children will enjoy water day fun on campus, and on the last Friday of each month the children will be bussed to a local pool.

The Broadway Experience!
June 19th – June 23rd

Come and learn all aspects of theatre, including singing, acting, and dancing. Participants will learn audition techniques and how to get a resume and headshot ready to audition. We will do scenes, songs, and dances from popular Broadway shows for kids. These shows include Beauty and the Beast, Peter Pan, You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown, Oliver, and more. The last day of camp will end in a Broadway Showcase for family and friends. Chris Martin will be leading the camp; he has directed musicals for over 10 years for Emmanuel Lutheran School.

June 19th – June 23rd

Lango Asheville is here for their language immersion summer program. “Adventures in Peru” will teach children about Machu Pichu and discover the rain forest, learn about animals, rivers, plants, bugs, and the indigenous people of Peru. Each day the campers will participate in art, dance, music, games and story reading as they learn about the culture of Peru while learning Spanish. Fluent speaking Spanish instructors from Lango will be leading this camp. *A 5% sibling discount will be given on this camp*


Gymnastics
June 26th – June 30th

Cost: $95.00
Cost with extended care: $195.00

Asheville gymnastics will provide hands-on training by instructors from the gym. This camp will focus on learning the basic skills of gymnastics: handstands, tumbling, rolls, cartwheels, and floor skills. Your child will love this high-energy camp.

June 26th – June 30th

Get ready to get wet and have fun. This week Cathy Whittemore (ELS Teacher) has a wild week of water games planned. The campers will be playing water balloon volleyball, water limbo, slip and slide tag, water races, and so much more. This Wet and Wild week will end with the campers visiting Waynesville Recreational Center for swimming.

July 3rd – July 7th

Instructor Nicole Loria (ELS Teacher and Art Major) will present a different famous artist each day. Campers will learn about the artist’s life, work and artistic style, and will get hands-on experience creating art projects that emulate the artist’s style!  *Rising first through 6th grade  

Wacky Games
July 3rd – July 7th

Tired of the same old games? How about a game of cabbage kickball? Or potato hockey or a team sport like aluminum softball! ELS teacher Cathy Whittemore has a variety of wacky games planned, come join the fun!

ELS Teacher Kim Noel will keep your child busy this week! Campers will have the opportunity to enhance their creativity with a variety of mediums.  You will take home a special creation every day, so come and discover the artist within you! 

frisbeeUltimate Frisbee Camp!
July 10th – July 14th

Come learn how to throw the hammer, flick, and backhand from the current two-time world ultimate Frisbee champion Mark Strazzer! Athletes will learn how to play the fast-growing sport of Ultimate as well as offensive and defensive strategies. Other fun Frisbee games will be incorporated throughout the week such as disc golf and kan jam. Ultimate Frisbee is a self-officiated game so there will be a large emphasis of Spirit of the Game in which we work hard but treat everyone with mutual respect and dignity. *Rising first through 6th grade

Asheville Sun Soo Traditional Tae Kwon Do Instructor Tony Morris, a 7th degree black belt for more than 20 years, heads up this exciting camp. Campers will learn an array of skills with a special emphasis placed on the core values of respect, integrity, and self -control.  

High Touch High Tech
July 17th – July 21st

A High Touch scientist will engage the children in fun, non-stop, hands-on-learning. Some of the programs that the camp will cover are: Polymer Parade, Science Circus, Tootin for Newton and Sticks & Stones! July 24th – July 28th

Your young chef will enjoy learning all about good nutrition in this cooking class. Students will compile a recipe book with instructor Chris Smith, an ELS teacher, and spend each day creating a delicious culinary dish. The week will end with a visit to Cici’s Pizza so the campers can create their ultimate pizza. 

Brick Builder Mania!
July 24th – July 28th

Get ready for some LEGO® fun with this brick building camp. The good times will roll with a vehicle obstacle course and derby race. The sky’s the limit when we build a skyscraper and put it to the earthquake table challenge! This week will include brick building team challenges that all brick builders will enjoy! Ms. Beth Brock, a brick builder maniac herself, is leading this fun camp!

During Camp Exploration, we will explore the creeks and playgrounds around the Asheville area. Come ready to get wet! In fact, better bring a change of clothes, and a net to catch some critters! Will you be able to catch a salamander?!? Places we will explore this week: Hominy Creek, Azalea Park, Jones Park, Fletcher Park, and Splashville Downtown. *Rising first through 6th grade  

Dancing With The Stars
July 31st - August 4th

If you love to dance like the stars then put your dancing shoes on! We are going to Line Dance, Rumba, Cha Cha, and Hustle the week away! The week ends with a dance performance to showcase all the different dance styles the kids have learned this week! Missy Lindsey an accomplished dance instructor and competitor will be leading this camp.

Aug. 7th – August 11th

Children will spend the week learning to make delicious no bake desserts with ELS teacher Chris Smith. Some desserts will be made in one day; others will be made one day and served and or sent home the next. These recipes can be shared or made at your next family gathering.  

Soccer Shots
Aug. 7th – August 11th

Soccer Shots is an engaging children’s soccer program with a focus on character development. Our caring team positively impacts children’s lives on and off the field through best-in-class coaching, communication and curriculum. Our coaches are the best-trained in the business. They focus on individual skill, fitness and sportsmanship. This provides an opportunity for children to be challenged through fun games and team interaction. Children will be introduced to competition in an appropriate manner. *No sibling discount on this camp due to contractors’ restrictions*

Emmanuel Under The Lights Drama Camp

Emmanuel Lutheran will produce our version of
“Peter Pan, Jr.”

Based on a play by Sir J.M. Barrie Lyrics by Carolyn Leigh Music by Morris “Moose” Charlap Additional Lyrics by Betty Comden, Adolph Green, Jule Styne. Originally choreographed and adapted by Jerome Robbins.

Peter Pan JR.Is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).
All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI.

This is the opportunity for your young actor or actress to star in a live performance!  Director Chris Martin will take the students from auditions all the way through the actual performance. Singing, dancing, acting, and stage development are skills that will be developed over this intense, but fun-filled, two-week camp. Each camper will receive a drama camp T-shirt, which is included in the camp price. 

Mr. Martin has directed the last eight shows for ELS including: “High School Musical,” “Willy Wonka,” “Dear Edwina,” “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown,” “Wizard of Oz,”  “Aladdin,” “The Little Mermaid,” “Annie,” and "Into the Woods,"  as well as musical productions at Asheville Community Theatre and Jones Elementary.

Auditions for this production will be May 30th and 31st from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. in our gymnasium
